Providence, RI
New England Independent Booksellers Assn Conference

Here's part of the Sisters in Crime crew at New England Independent Booksellers Association convention in Providence, Rhode Island.

Me, Steve Kelner, Gail Clark, Hans Copek, Judy Copek and Sarah Smith. What a terrific booth Hans and Judy set up! The rest of us handed out books and bookmarks, talked to dozens of interested booksellers, and um, ate chocolate.

Sharing "war' stories at the New England Independent Booksellers Association convention—this is Jim Benn, author of the acclaimed Billy Boyle World War II Mystery series. FIRST WAVE is his newest. Check them out—not only are they wonderful history and wonderful stories, the covers are terrific.

Arlington, MA
Signing Prime Time (with author Mameve Medwed)
Arlington Town Day
Arlington Town Green

Arlington Town Day was a glorious sunny New England end of summer afternoon in the town of Arlington Massachusetts. The streets were filled with of families eating ice cream and shopping in dozens of booths—getting balloons and getting their faces painted—and buying books! This is Shauna Staveley of the Arlington Advocate newspaper, interviewing me about Face Time and taping with a tiny camera at the same time.

Best-selling author Mameve Medwed and I chatted with booklovers at the Haley Booksellers booth on Arlington Town Day. She's amazing...and her book How Elizabeth Barrett Browning Saved My Life is touching and hilarious and clever and not-to-be-missed.

Another from Arlington Town Day—here's Shauna from the paper, Dick from Haley's Books and Geri from the fantastic Cyrus Dallin Museum. Check the website—you know his work!

Sunday, August 26, 2007
Edgartown, Marthas Vineyard, MA
Signing Prime Time (with author Jan Brogan)
Edgartown Book Store
345 Main Street

This is me with David Le Breton, the gracious owner of Edgartown Books on Martha's Vineyard. We sat on the porch of his store, signed books and had a lovely summer afternoon. Scoop was that Meg Ryan was on the island, and my thought was she would stop by, see Prime Time, and decide she wanted to star in the movie. She could be a pretty great Charlie, don't you think? Lots of other people came to chat and read and buy books—but alas, no Meg. Maybe next time.

This is the amazing Mary Cotton, the owner of Newtonville Books. It's my neighborhood bookstore. It's so beautiful—one side is for grown-ups, and the other is a truly unique children's section. Both absolutely irresistible. We had a terrific event as part of their Books and Brews series—a fun reading with lots of great questions and discussion—all in their secret literary hideaway in the back of the store. I was going to say it's so secret we can't reveal what it looks like, but truth is, we had a small camera malfunction. So—next time!

Cambridge, MA
Reading
"Four Stories" (Boston's literary salon)
http://www.fourstories.org/event-featured.html

This is a very hip spot in Cambridge called The Enormous Room where Tracy Slater's very, very hip Four Stories readings are held. The place is huge (um, enormous) and it's like a big living room with comfy couches and ottomans and plush chairs. People have great wine and tasty snacks and listen to four authors read from their books or manuscripts. In this photo: I had told Tracy that I'd just received the art for the cover of Prime Time, and she asked me to hold it up. Everyone applauded, as well they should. It's a great cover.

This is Kristin Nelson, my agent extraordinaire in the middle... and (from left) her clients and my dear pals Marianne Mancusi, Becky Motew and on the end Jennifer O'Connell. My favorite part of this photo is the accidental tiara created by the reflection of the chandelier behind me...

March 22, 2007
Swampscott, MA
Keynote Speaker
Friends of Swampscott Library

What a wonderful gathering! About 100 mystery lovers turned out at the Swampscott Library to talk about mystery writing and get the inside scoop about FACE TIME, the second Charlie McNally mystery! They're the first to know part of it actually takes place in their gorgeous oceanside town, and didn't even mind that it's the scene of the crime. This is me (with my faithful file folder), my darling husband, and Alyce Deveau, the librarian who organized the whole event.
